Actual Window Manager ist eine Desktop-Suite von über 50 Tools, die die Arbeit des Anwenders mit Windows aufregender machen werden: Verkleinern von Fenstern zur Tray oder zum kleinen Desktopicon, Anwendung von Transparenz, Rollup-Effekte, Anpinnen, Automatisch ausrichten, Vergrößern usw. Alle diese Operationen (sowie viele andere) können mit einem Klick auf die Fenstertitel-Buttons ausgeführt werden, die sich nach der Installation neben den Minimieren/Maximieren/Schließen-Buttons befinden. Abgesehen von den Buttons kann der Benutzer Effekte für vordefinierte Fenster standardmäßig einstellen (z.B. 50% Transparenz für Winamp).
Die Installation und der erste Start sind erstaunlich einfach. Wenn Actual Window Manager installiert ist, fügt er seine Buttons zur Titelleiste jedes Fensters hinzu. Diese Buttons haben den gleichen Design wie die Standard-Buttons "Minimieren", "Wiederherstellen" und "Schließen", doch sie fügen neue Funktionen zum Fenster hinzu: Sie können es z.B. wie eine Jalousie hochklappen. Das Programm besitzt Profile für die beliebtesten Windows-Programme, aber diese Profile können von Anwendern beliebig angepasst werden, oder es können neue erstellt werden ? kinderleicht. Um solche Änderungen vorzunehmen, muss man das Konfigurationsfenster aufrufen und die Regeln für ein bestimmtes Programm modifizieren oder einrichten ? mit wenigen Mausklicks.
Actual Window Manager ist besonders nützlich, wenn Sie gleichzeitig mit mehreren Anwendungen arbeiten. Das Umschalten von einem Fenster zum nächsten lenkt ab und senkt die Produktivität. Die Taskbar wird mit verkleinerten Fenstern überladen. Doch mit Actual Window Manager auf Ihrem PC ist es nicht so. Sie können einstellen, dass Fenster zur Tray oder auf den Desktop verkleinert werden, aufrollen oder bis zum bestimmten Grad halbtransparent werden. Wenn Sie Multitasking betreiben, können Sie alle die benötigten Fenster im Vordergrund festtackern, so dass Sie sie nicht mehrmals in den Vordergrund bringen brauchen.
